Sorry for the LONG dealy... A lot has happened.

Now when I say a lot... I mean something really big has happened.  Jenny gave birth on September 6th at 02:15 to our 1st child... Emery Riane Gumbert. 

She has been a huge blessing to us and we are thankful that she is a healthy, beautiful, fun little girl.  I am anxious to get to know her personality.  I have this person that God gave me to watch over and I have no idea what she is like... Well, I know that she is into eating and sleeping so that is a start.  Like I said, she is a huge blessing and I am looking forward to being her daddy.

In ministry we have grown a lot... Kaleo is coming to be a huge presence at MSJC (our local junior college) and we have even seen people come to Christ through the outreach there.  It is really about time that we did this... The campus is close and people are hungry for the truth.  Please pray that we stay diligent in our efforts there.  

The Kaleo band is growing too.  We have had some great additions to the band... (Wes, drums and my brother Jason, bass) are rotating with Brett and Tim.  It is really neat to see God bring up people who want to serve and for them to have an opportunity.  Josh White got a new piece of equipment that has added a new element to our sound.  The new Micro Korg XL.  I love the things that he is doing with it and we haven't even scratched the surface of what it can do. Jared also got a new capital item... He picked up a Fender Jazzmaster that he will be using tomorrow night for the 1st time.  Kind of exciting for me and him.  I love new gear!!!  We are meeting at 6 pm here . Come check it out.  Peter Spires is teaching this week and it is sure to be a good time.

PRE-CAMP

So we (Jenny and I) are heading to the youth summer camp this year.  We are representing the college group (Kaleo) to help transition the seniors that just graduated, into the a higher level of spiritual expectation.  

So we are preparing our hearts to help steer these kids in the right direction.  I remember not long ago (9 years...YIKES) when I graduated from high school.  I realize how important it is to pour into these kids and to see them grow and mature in Christ so that they do not fall by the way side.  I was fortunate enough to have some of these people in my life and as a result, God used that to bring me to the place I am now.  

I look ahead and wonder who will be the future of the church.  The men I love and respect who are the great teachers and preachers of this time won't live forever.   So times like this are crucial.  Statistically, the time period between high school and college is when kids in the church fall away from fellowship and are potentially lost forever.  Jenny and I are aware of the importance of the role that we are given and we are excited to see God work.

Things that you can pray for:

1. Jenny is pregnant, this is going to be a hard weekend for her.  Pray that she would remain as comfortable as possible.

2. The hearts of the kids there.  Pray that God would do a mighty work in the hearts of the kids and that He would have grace and that we could see salvation come to Lake San Antonio.

3.  Pray for the safety of the kids.  There is a lot of games and physical activity that have a huge potential for injury.  Pray that no kids camp is affected by an injury.

4.  Pray for all the staff and crew helping out.  Pray that God would use them in a mighty way to reach these lost kids.

3 Strand Evangelism = Philippians 2 Principle

So the following is a hot topic right now at Kaleo.  We need to continue to live life on Mission and the Philippians 2 Principle is a tried and true method that you can see people come to know Christ.  The following is from an email Erick Cobb sent out.  3 strands, 1 Principle.

1.    Intentional Relationship Building – We intentionally meet new people and build relationships with them for the purpose of helping them understand the Gospel in a deeper way.  We do this because we want God to be glorified as the lost come to see that Jesus is the source of all true lasting joy.  This intentional relationship building occurs anywhere God has us through the week and also whenever Kaleo gather as a community.

You may wonder, “How do I build relationships?”  The answer is The Philippians 2 Principle. “…in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”  (Philippians 2:3-4).  As you meet new people don’t think about yourself and how you are being perceived.  Make the conversation about them.  Ask them about their school (what are they studying?, what’s their major?, what drew them to it?, what do they hope to do with it?).  Ask them about where they are from.  Ask them about what they are into (music?, sports?, gaming?, dirt bikes?, arts? outdoors?).  Ask them what kind of work they do (how long?, do they like it?, what do they want to be doing?).  Pray for them in your mind as you speak to them, asking God to reveal himself to them.  After really getting to know them, ask them something like: “Where are you at in your spiritual journey?” or “Where are you at spiritually?” or “What do you think God is up to (or teaching you) in your life you right now?” (which one depends on the person, as God leads).

2.    Invite New People into Christian Community – Jesus said that those who don’t know him will judge the reality of our claims about the Gospel based on how well we love one another (John 13:35, John 17:21).  Inviting them into Christian community gives them an opportunity to begin to see the power of the Gospel in the lives of Jesus’ people.  This power is specifically seen in how we love one another.  When we speak of inviting them into Christian community we don’t just mean our larger gatherings where teaching occurs (though it does include that), but also smaller gatherings like BBQ’s, trips to the beach, Disneyland, hikes, dancing, game nights, or just hanging out with a few of your Christian friends.  These smaller social events are essential to the way we evangelize as a community.

 

3.    Sharing the Gospel – Since the Gospel is good news it is a message, so it can’t save anyone by just being “lived out” before the lost (as important as that is).  It must be verbalized to bring about salvation in the hearts of the lost (Romans 10:13-17).  In other words: “No seed has been sown unless the Gospel is known”.  Realize that many who have gone to church for years in our valley and think they are Christians do not really understand the Gospel.  Take them through the Gospel and you will be amazed at how many have never really understood it.

Be On Mission

So last Friday night Jenny and I went to the Temecula mall (aka. The New OC) to have dinner at the Yard House with Rosy and David.  I'll be honest, the food isn't great.  But the atmosphere is great.  The new outdoor area is beautiful.  I mentioned to David that this is our mission field.  People don't like to hear that they need a Savior.  Well, here in so cal they don't like to hear it.  But that can't stop us from sharing.  Shannon Hurley metioned in his message at Kaleo that we are "obligated" to share (Romans 1).  Why don't we think of it like that?

Sunday Night 3-22-2009

It's official!!!  We started the book of Philippians tonight.  It was a day filled with technical difficulties but we never let that stop us from doing His work.  The focus is always Christ.  My goal as a corporate worship leader is to exalt God.  Seems simple enough right?  At Kaleo we do a large part (if not all) of the music at the end.  I breifly mentioned before we started the singing tonight that the time or praising through song is something we get to participate in.  It is one of my favorite times whether it be behind a microphone and guitar, or in the chairs.  God is deserving of our praise and to be able to give it to Him is something to be charished for us.  Philippians is one of my favorite books in the bible.  Particularly because of the 2nd chapter.  Esteeming others higher than myself.  When that principle is executed in our lives, people get saved!!!  "They will know we are Christians by our love".  Lets work on that.  Love.

I've been leading worship at bible studies and chuch since 2001.  I've learned a lot during that time.  I am now a better musician and a better leader.  More importantly I have learned more about what worship, TRUE worship really is.  I decided to create a blog where I can open my thoughts to whom ever would stop by.  My heart is for the 18-20 something age group that is lacking in a relationship with Christ.  Kaleo www.kaleo.ws is our "college and career" ministry of Faith Bible Church www.faith-bible.net .  I have the privledge to lead the corporate worship time there and my hope is that people can participate in an authentic time of worship to our great God.  If you are in the Murrieta/Temecula area, join us.
